Early Childhood Intervention Service

Mpower has been providing high quality Early Childhood Intervention Service programs to the South West of Victoria since 1991.  Mpower is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of people for whom it provides a service.

Mpower’s multi-disciplinary Early Childhood Intervention team provide a range of flexible, family-centred and child focused services to support children with developmental delay, Autism Spectrum Disorder or a diagnosed disability, and their families.

We take a family-centred approach that recognises the central importance of the family in a child’s life. At Mpower we recognise that each family is unique, having their own priorities, strengths and support networks. By recognising this we are able to work closely with each family to identify the family priorities for desired outcomes, and the services and supports through which these are most likely to be achieved.

To achieve the best outcomes possible we will embed services and therapies into the natural and familiar environments of your child and family.  Effective early childhood intervention programs are an important first step for children with disabilities or developmental concerns.  Timely early childhood intervention leads to improved outcomes, increasing social and daily living skills and promoting development.

Mpower’s Early Childhood Intervention team aims to support the development of a child’s:
  • Cognitive skills (thinking, learning and solving problems)
  • Communication skills (talking, listening and understanding)
  • Self-help skills (eating, dressing, toileting)
  • Social or emotional skills (behaviour, playing and interacting with others)
  • Sensory processing skills ( tastes, sounds, smells, textures)

Parent Education Programs available:
  • Hanen It Takes Two to Talk
  • Hanen More Than Words
  • Early Goals
  • Signposts
  • Pre-schoolers with Autism

Following an assessment to find out the needs of each family we will develop a service plan that identifies these priorities.

Where Can You Access our ECIS Services?
Our coordinated approach to therapy means our programs are integrated into the normal routines of your child and your family. We work closely with families to understand their routines and priorities so that therapy can be included as part of these every day experiences. The range of services that families can decide best meets their needs can be provided in the family home, in early childhood settings, places your child may attend such as childcare, Family Day care or Kindergarten, and at Mpower’s offices in Warrnambool or Portland. Should these not meet your needs you are also able to request other locations.

Harley - MpowerHarley’s mum Rebecca wrote:
So proud of this boy. We have been working with Mpower (early childhood intervention) for 18 mths as part of their playgroup program which focuses on behaviours and routines. The staff there have been a godsend to all of us, teaching us how to manage Harley the best way we can and being a huge support when we've needed help, I could go on about how much help they are to any family who has a special needs child or one that needs to catch up on a specific area.

When we started, getting Harley to sit on a mat and listen to a song was absolutely impossible, over the 18mths things have gotten better, his concentration is improving. Today it took him a bit of courage, he went out of his comfort zone and played "Ted In a box" at mat time...go him!!! He faces every challenge with absolute guts.
